Connors, Marious Stand Tall in Football's Homecoming Shutout

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Defensive linemen Kyle Connors and C.J. Marious combined for five sacks while running back Travis Damron scored the go-ahead touchdown with 1:14 remaining as the Siena Heights football team claimed a 7-0 non-conference victory over Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) in its Homecoming game on Saturday at O'Laughlin Stadium.

Connors had eight total tackles, including three sackes. He totaled 6 1/2 tackles for loss. Marious finished with six total tackles, including two sacks (two TFLs).

Linebacker Trent Bragg added 1 1/2 tackles-for-loss and a forced fumble for the SHU defense, which recorded its second shutout of ONU in as many years. The Saints defeated the Tigers, 14-0, on Sept. 28, 2013.

Damron's one-yard game-winning score finished off a nine-play, 72-yard drive. During the drive, quarterback Travis Zajkowski hooked up with running back Julius Taylor Jr. on a 60-yard pass play.

On ONU's final drive, Marious and Connors combined on a sack on fourth-and-5 to end the visitors' hopes.

Zajkowski completed 21 of 32 passes for 246 yards and one interception. He also had five carries for 46 yards.

Through the air, wide receiver Reggie Blackmon caught seven passes for 69 yards. Fellow wide receiver Raphael Dunson made six catches for 42 yards.

Running back Dont'e Fox was the Saints' leading rusher, finishing with 11 runs for 53 yards.

For ONU (0-4), linebacker Brandon Ruemler compiled 12 total tackles, including three for-loss. Defensive back Chandler Tuckerman added 10 total tackles and defensive lineman Ron France blocked two field-goal attempts.

Also for the Tiger defense, linebacker Gino Prestia recovered a fumble and defensive back Lucas Limberg made an interception.

On offense, ONU quarterback was 13 of 28 for 103 yards. Wide receiver Tyler Swindle made five receptions for 39 yards.

The Saints (1-2) will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, with a 7 p.m. road game at currently-ninth-ranked Saint Francis (Ind.). The contest will be a Mid-States Football Association Mideast League opener for both teams.
