BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The Siena Heights football team dropped a 37-29 contest at Olivet Nazarene on Saturday.
Kick returner D.J. Young became the first SHU football player with two kickoff-return touchdowns in a career, having returned both kicks in 2025.
Quarterback Braylen Himmelein had a pair of touchdown passes, finding Tendaji Alexander and Numehnne Gwilly for scores. Himmelein finished 17 of 38 for 199 yards.
Brendan Haisenleder added a TD run. Jaylen Flowers was the Saints' leading rusher with eight carries for 52 yards.
Clarke Hamilton led the defense with nine tackles, including two for-loss. One of those TFLs was a sack/forced fumble.
Joe Nemecek added seven tackles for SHU (1-2) and A.J. Knox and Johnny Habash recorded TFLs. Jalen Edwards had a fumble recovery.
The Saints fell behind 7-0 in the first quarter before scoring the next 13 points. Haisenleder had a 5-yard TD run, which was set up by Hamilton's force and Edwards' recovery. In the second, Himmelein found Alexander for a 9-yard hookup as the Saints took a 13-7 edge.
A 31-yard field goal by Carter Ball helped SHU to a 16-13 lead before the host Tigers (3-1) went up 20-16 before halftime.
Siena Heights grabbed its last lead during the third quarter as Himmelein threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Gwilly.
ONU scored the next 14 points, going up 34-22. A 90-yard kickoff return by Young pulled the Saints within 34-29.
After the Tigers stretched their lead up to 37-29 with 3:07 to go, SHU had its final two possessions fall short.
The Saints will return to play next Saturday when they host Judson during Homecoming Weekend.
