ADRIAN, Mich. -- Malachi Satterlee scored 13 points and Christian Covile compiled a double-double worth 12 points and 10 rebounds, but a second-half Siena Heights run fell short as the Saints fell to Cornerstone, 68-57, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Thursday.
Jamison Webster added 10 points and Jerrel Martin hauled down 10 rebounds for the Saints (2-4, 0-1).
SHU trailed by as many as 12 in the first half before clawing back in the second. Webster capped off a 7-0 Siena Heights run, drilling a game-tying 3-pointer with 16:57 to go.
The teams were tied at 38, 40 and 42 before Cornerstone extended its lead to 53-44. The Saints then responded with an 8-0 streak, getting four points from Martin.
Satterlee closed the hosts' deficit to 53-52 and was fouled on the play. The player that was called for the foul was also issued a technical, giving the Saints three consecutive tries from the free-throw line.
Until then, SHU had lived off the stripe by making 15 of its first 16; the magic wore off with three straight misses before Cornerstone followed with nine consecutive points to take a 62-52 lead. The Saints pulled within five with 2:17 to go before the Golden Eagles scored the game's final six points.
Wes Hudson led Cornerstone (3-1, 1-0) with 18 points while Ben Lanning contributed 11 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Allen had seven rebounds and four assists.
The Saints will be in action again on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Aquinas.
