Wesley Sparks SHU Offense in Win Over LT

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Latwan Wesley scored 16 points off the bench as the Siena Heights men's basketball team defeated Lawrence Tech, 67-51, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Jamison Webster added 10 points while both Webster and Wesley finished with four assists. Eric Cogan had five rebounds for SHU team that won the rebounding battle, 40-27.

The Saints (5-8, 2-5) took the lead for good with a 9-1 run in the first half. Christian Covile hit a 3-pointer before Wesley buried a pair of treys to put the home team ahead, 9-4.

SHU enjoyed a pair of outstanding stretches during the contest -- once in the first half and once in the second. The Saints finished 50.9 percent from the field (27 of 53).

The Saints outscored LT, 20-6, to push their lead to 37-20. Stone Beckwith sparked the SHU offense with two 3-pointers to start the stretch; he added another 3-ball during the charge.

A 21-7 stretch by Siena Heights helped the home team grab its largest lead in the second half at 60-40. The Saints, who actually led by 20 on three occasions, got six points apiece from Webster and Wesley as seven scorers contributed to the run.

Brad Watterworth was the top performer for Lawrence Tech (3-10, 1-6), compiling 10 points and eight rebounds. Jake Mullin added four assists and three steals.

Siena Heights will return to competition on Monday with a 6 p.m. non-conference game against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).
