ADRIAN, Mich. -- Eric Cogan and Latwan Wesley scored 15 and 13 points off the bench, respectively, but a slow start doomed the Siena Heights men's basketball team in its 69-58 loss to Concordia in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.
Christian Covile added eight rebounds for the Saints (6-9, 2-6), who fell behind 9-2 to start the contest and never led afterward.
SHU cut its deficit to 17-16 later in the first half, but that was as close as the hosts would get to the Cardinals (6-8, 4-4).
Concordia took a 27-21 lead into halftime and then exploded for the first nine points of the second half, opening up a 36-21 lead. From there, the Saints closed the gap to eight points on three separate occasions, but could not pull any closer.
On the game, Siena Heights shot 32.1 percent from the field (17 of 53) andn 61.1 percent from the free-throw line (22 of 36). During the first, it was 7 of 30 from the field, including an 0-for-8 performance from 3-polint land.
Concordia was led by Josh Fugate, who scored 21 points. John Schaeffer added 17 points while Joe Remstad and Jessie Schienke grabbed nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
The Saints will be in action next on Tuesday when they host Spring Arbor in non-conference play, beginning at 1 p.m.
