Late Cold Streak Dooms Siena Men

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Christian Covile led Siena Heights with 18 points and seven rebounds, but the Saints' men's basketball team's offense struggled late as it fell to Indiana Tech, 59-51, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Edward Cold added four assists for SHU (8-15, 4-11), which once held a five-point lead and last led, 28-27, with 1:06 left in the first half.

Siena Heights trailed at halftime, 29-28, before pulling itself into two second-half ties at 37- and 39-all.

The Warriors scored five consecutive points, getting three from John Cooksey and two from Rontray Chavis, to take a 44-39 advantage -- a lead they would neve relinquish.

The home team closed its deficit to 48-46 on a layup by Malachi Satterlee with 5:35 to go, but after that, the Siena Heights offense went cold. During the final five minutes, the Saints committed four turnovers and made 1 of 7 from the field. In that same timeframe, Indiana Tech scored 11 points, including 6 of 8 from the free throw line.

Chavis led visiting Indiana Tech (14-8, 9-5) with 13 points and eight rebounds. Nick Lewis contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists while John Cooksey compiled 10 points and eight rebounds. Also, Jeff Hoskins scored 12 points.

Siena Heights will be in action again on Saturday with a 3 p.m. WHAC contest at Lawrence Tech.
