ADRIAN, Mich. -- Christian Covile compiled 18 points and six rebounds -- all of which came in the second half -- as the Siena Heights men's basketball team grinded out a 54-43 win against Lourdes (Ohio) in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup at the SHU Fieldhouse on Thursday.
Edward Cold added 12 points and five assists while Jerrell Martin grabbed eight rebounds for the Saints (10-15, 6-11), who shot 13 of 25 from the field in the second (52.0 percent) while holding Lourdes to a 7-for-24 performance (29.2 percent).
After the teams went into halftime tied at 19-all, they traded the lead early in the second half before an 11-1 Siena Heights run helped the hosts to a 37-26 advantage with 9:39 to go. Covile had six points during the stretch.
The Gray Wolves (14-11, 9-8) eventually closed their deficit to 45-37, but the Saints responded with eight straight points in quick fashion -- ultimately sealing the victory.
Early in the game, SHU snagged its first lead of the night with a 10-0 first-half streak, going up 13-8. An eventual 7-0 Lourdes stretch closed out the half and forged the 19-19 knot.
Ron Dukes and Jake DuPree had 14 points apiece for LU while Zach Steinmetz hauled down 13 rebounds.
The Saints will be in action next on Saturday when they visit Madonna for a 3 p.m. start.
