ADRIAN, Mich. -- Christian Covile compiled 26 points and six rebounds, but second-half struggles doomed the Siena Heights men's basketball team in its 81-72 loss to Madonna in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.
Stone Beckwith added 13 points, Tyler Leighton put in 10 points, and George Goodman finished with five assist and four steals for the Saints (7-10, 3-6).
SHU held a 35-31 lead at halftime before Madonna grabbed the lead itself, eventually building a 59-46 advantage. A 12-3 SHU run cut MU's lead to 62-58 with 7:17 left; Covile had 10 points during that stretch, but that was as close as the Saints would get.
Shaun Duncan was the leading scorer for Madonna, finishing with 33 points. Jeff Schmitz added 12 points while Khalil Malone and C.J. Ezeani chipped in with 10 apiece. Malone also had six assists and four steals while leading rebounder Grant Smith hauled down eight boards.
The Saints will play again on Saturday when they visit Lourdes (Ohio) for a 3 p.m. WHAC start.
