Second-Half Surge Stalls in Men's Hoops Loss

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team made a second-half charge, but ultimately fell short in its 56-40 loss to Lourdes (Ohio) in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

George Goodman had 13 points and four steals while Christian Covile grabbed eight rebounds for the Saints (7-11, 3-7).

The host Gray Wolves (10-8, 6-4) opened with the game's first six points and took an early 13-2 lead. LU held that advantage until the Saints tied the contest at 36-all with 9:06 remaining in the game.

A nine-point run helped visiting Siena Heights forge the 36-36 knot, but from that point on, the Saints managed only four points for the rest of the game.

Lourdes enjoyed an immediate 10-0 streak itself to build a 46-36 lead with 5:35 to go. The Wolves then scored their final 10 points from the line, making all 10 of its attempts during the final 3:18.

Jake DuPree was LU's leading scorer with 22 points. E.J. Blackwell and Zach Steinmetz added 10 points apiece. Also, Steinmetz had seven rebounds and Brillon Pritchett dished five assists.

The Saints will be in action next when they visit Lawrence Tech for an 8 p.m. WHAC contest on Wednesday.
