Upcoming for Saints Men's Basketball: After a 0-3 record last week dropping games to Aquinas, Rochester, and Lourdes, the Saints look ahead to this week's matchups. They will have two road games and one home game, which are all WHAC conference games. They play at UNOH on Wednesday, are home against Concordia on Saturday, and finished the week on the road at Madonna on Sunday.
Head Coach: Joe Pechota enters his ninth year as the Siena Heights men's basketball coach. The Saints saw their most successful season under Pechota during the 2018-19 season when the team finished 17-13 overall and 12-8 in conference play to earn fourth in the WHAC standings, the highest finish since 2010.
Series History: UNOH - The series between the two teams is tied 12-12, UNOH lost the last matchup against the Saints this season on February 5th as Siena earned their first win of the season on home court. The Racers last won against the Saints on February 12th, 2020 82-81 that broke Siena's five-game winning streak against them.
Concordia - The Cardinals won the last matchup against the Saints this season 81-66 on their home court. Last season, Siena was on the road at Concordia and lost 75-61. The next matchup between the two that same season was on the Saints' home court where they won 75-72.
Madonna - The Saints lead the all-time record against the Crusaders 35-23, this will be the first time the teams meet this season. Madonna is on a two-game winning streak against the Saints from last season. They won the last contest against Siena 93-66 at home on February 26th and the game before that on January 29th 89-58 on the Saints' court.
Wrapping up Last Time Out: The Siena Heights men's basketball fell to WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) opponent Lourdes, 78-57, on Sunday afternoon. Kevin Rice (Sr. | Detroit, Mich.) led the Saints with a team-high of 16 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
The Gray Wolves jumped out to a 9-2 run at the 16:20 mark that was sparked by a layup from Julian Egbo and ended with a layup from Mike Bruce. The Saints cut the deficit to two points, 11-7, earning a 5-0 run as Rice and Curtis Bell III (Jr. | St. Paul, Minn.) contributed points. Lourdes gained some cushion with an 8-2 run as a pair of free-throws were good from Little Anderson giving them a double-digit lead 19-9. Elijah Kimmons (Fr. | Madison, Wis.) had two layups as Rice made a free throw for Siena to put them down by five points, 19-14, where the score would stay for two minutes. The Gray Wolves went on a 5-0 run to send the game into intermission with them in a 15-point lead, 35-20.
Siena went on a 7-0 run as Jay Kirby (Jr. | Farmington Hills, Mich.), London Gillery (Fr. | Detroit, Mich), and Rice contributed points to update the score 44-31. Lourdes built a 60-40 lead with 6:52 left in the game as Deuce Martin made a layup and never looked back for the remainder of the game. They continued to build upon the lead in the remainder of the game and the Saints never closed the gap to single digits. Siena went on a 5-0 run to close out the game as Kimmons made a pair of free throws and Dominque Cole (Fr. | Toledo, Ohio) drained a three-pointer but it wasn't enough earning the Gray Wolves the win.
Career-High: Kevin Rice led the Saints in all three games last week. He scored a career-high of 29 points, four assists, and five steals in the game against Aquinas on February 10th. He went 12-22 from the floor, 1-2 from beyond the arc, and 4-5 from the charity stripe in that game. He averaged 22.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 2.7 APG, 0.3 BKPG, 1.7 STLPG, 54.2 FG %, 50.0 3PT %, and 75.0 FT % on the week.
