Upcoming for SHU Men's Basketball: The Saints are opening conference play this coming week with two road games to start off WHAC play. Wednesday, the team will travel to play nationally-ranked Indiana Tech who opened the preseason polls as the #1 seed in the WHAC. Siena will close the week out with another road test against Aquinas College on Saturday.
Coaching Staff: Joe Pechota enters his 11th season as the head coach of the Siena Heights men's basketball program. Pechota has a career record of 211-292 which includes his 110 wins with the Saints program. He assisted this season by graduate assistant Aaron Herbst, assistants Darius Wilson and Aaron Benard, and director of basketball operations, Ryan Mann.
At Home: The Saints started their season last week by hosting Ohio Christian University but fell to the Trailblazers 83-72.
On the Road: SHU will play their first two road games of the season this week.
The Team: The SHU men's basketball team returns multiple starters from the 2021 season, including Sophomore Max Moratinos. The Miami, Florida native saw 17 starts last season and held a 35.7 field goal percentage along with an average of 4.6 points per game. Luis Young, another Sophomore from Miami, Florida, adds to the Siena roster with his 28 games played and 3.6 points per game average. Young also holds a 35.8 field goal percentage giving SHU depth from the line. In addition, Davin Walker, a Sophomore from Detroit, Michigan, tallied 7.0 points per game with 44.7 field goal percentage returners to the Saints lineup. Siena Heights looks to fill the whole left by Kevin Rice with three top newcomers, first transfer Jalen Fisher from Lemoyne-Owen alongside incoming Freshman Colin Nutter and Jonas Tester, both out of Ohio. All three look to significantly impact the Saints' 2022-23 season.
Series History:
Indiana Tech: The Saints have a record of 2-16 against the Warriors of Indiana Tech with their last win coming in 2019.
Aquinas College: SHU is 6-11 against Aquinas College since 2013 with the Saints winning both matchups last season.
Last Week Recap: The Saints played their opening regular season game last Thursday against Ohio Christian and lost 83-72.
