Upcoming for SHU Men's Basketball: SHU will take a break away from WHAC play this week facing two non-conference opponents. The Saints return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 22 with a cross-town rivalry game at Adrian College. The Saints return home on Saturday when they play Miami Middleton as a part of their annual Thanksgiving Tournament.
Coaching Staff: Joe Pechota enters his 11th season as the head coach of the Siena Heights men's basketball program. Pechota has a career record of 212-295 which includes his 111 wins with the Saints program. He assisted this season by graduate assistant Aaron Herbst, assistants Darius Wilson and Aaron Benard, and director of basketball operations, Ryan Mann.
At Home: The Saints will not play a home game this week until Saturday as a part of their annual thanksgiving tournament where they will look to get their first home win.
On the Road: SHU has a road record of 1-2 after Saturday's win against the Racers of UNOH where the Saints traveled to Lima, Ohio, and won in the closing seconds of the game by a score of 69-68.
The Team: The SHU men's basketball team returns multiple starters from the 2021 season, including Sophomore Max Moratinos. The Miami, Florida native saw 17 starts last season and held a 35.7 field goal percentage along with an average of 4.6 points per game. Luis Young,
another Sophomore from Miami, Florida, adds to the Siena roster with his 28 games played and 3.6 points per game average. Young also holds a 35.8 field goal percentage giving SHU depth from the line. In addition, Davin Walker, a Sophomore from Detroit, Michigan, tallied 7.0 points per game with 44.7 field goal percentage returners to the Saints lineup. Siena Heights looks to fill the whole left by Kevin Rice with three top newcomers, first transfer Jalen Fisher from Lemoyne-Owen alongside incoming Freshman Colin Nutter and Jonas Tester, both out of Ohio. All three look to significantly impact the Saints' 2022-23 season.
Series History:
Adrian College: The Saints have a record of 4-3 against cross-town rivals since 2013.
Miami-Middletown: This is the Saints first matchup against Miami-Middletown.
Last Week Recap: The Saints faced two tough conference opponents looking to respond to opening the season 0-3. SHU hosted Lourdes and the Gray Wolves narrowly escaped by a score of 66-60. The Saints then traveled to UNOH this past Saturday where Curtis Bell III made a layup with 2 seconds left in the game and added a free throw to give the Siena Heights Men's Basketball team its first win of the season.
