Men's Basketball Holds Off East-West

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team defeated non-conference opponent East-West 61-57 on Monday. 

Kobe Clark led the Saints with 14 points and four rebounds. Also nearing a double-double for the Saints was Brent Wiles scoring 11 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Off the bench, George Kalatzis added 12 points. 

SHU 5-7 (2-3) in the first half started the game on an 8-2 run in the first 4:45 until East-West went on a 10-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. The Saints then managed to go on a 11-0 run as they found themselves back up 19-12, which was the Saints' largest lead of the game. East-West then responded as the Saints found themselves down by one at halftime, 33-32. 

In the second half, SHU and East-West battled back and forth, as the largest lead of the half for both teams was at four points, when the Saints had the lead at 41-37 at the 13:16 mark in the second half and at the end of the game. The Saints closed the game out scoring five unanswered. After East-West made a three point jumper to take the lead at 57-56, the Saints were able to close the game out at the free throw line. George Kalatzis made three free throws in three trips and Brent Wiles sealed the victory making the final two free throws after making a critical defensive rebound to win the game for the Saints, 61-57. 

On the day, the Saints shot 37.8% from the floor and 31.3% from behind the three point line. 

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18, with a 7:30 p.m. EST game at WHAC Conference Opponent, Northwestern Ohio.
