Men's Lacrosse Unbeaten Streak Snapped by Defending National Champion, Grand Valley

Adrian, Mich. - In the high winds and periodic rain storms the 15th ranked Men's Lacrosse Team lost to the defending National Champion, and 6th ranked, Grand Valley State University Lakers 7-6.

The Saints twice found themselves down by a pair of goals to the Lakers.  Twice the Saints were able to come back and tie the game.  Once at 2-2 in the second quarter and then again at 6-6 late in the fourth quarter.  

Heading into the fourth quarter the Saints were down by only a goal.  With 9:39 left in the game Chris Acton scored to tie the game at six.  GVSU scored 50 seconds later to take the one goal lead.  With almost no time left in the game the Saints had two scoring opportunities from point blank range.  One, was saved and the rebound shot was sent off the cross-bar as the clock struck zero.

Seven different Saints recorded goals on the night.  John Holowaty, Tom Kreitzer, Shane Lewandowski and Danny Orr all had a goal and an assist.  Nate Woods and Acton were the Saints other scorers.  Ryan Mailloux made 14 saves in the cage for the Saints.

Conor Schwalm scored three goals for GVSU, while Kyrn Stoddard made 16 saves for the win.

The Saints recorded their first loss of the season but still stand at and impressive 8-1 overall.  They will look to bounce back on Sunday April 12th, at 1 pm, when they host Ferris State University.
