ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights senior Ramon Matos and freshman Zak Tucker claimed two of the three weekly awards granted by the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). Matos was named the WHAC men's volleyball attacker of the week while Tucker claimed his third conference setter of the week honor.
Matos tied his career-high of 23 kills as he recorded his first double-double of the season in a 3-1 win over Goshen on Saturday. He recorded a team-high 5.43 kills per set while finishing the week with a .342 hitting percentage. The Chicago, Illinois native currently ranks third in the WHAC in kills per set with 4.55. He is also fifth in the league with a .306 hitting percentage.
Tucker hit 50 assists in a single match for the first time of his career in the 3-1 win over Goshen on Saturday. His 12.71 assists per set this past week eclipsed his season mark of 10.13, ranking second in the WHAC.
This is the first WHAC weekly award of Matos' career, while it is the third for Tucker. These are the fourth and fifth WHAC weekly awards for the SHU men's volleyball team.
Matos and Tucker will lead the Saints in a non-conference match on Tuesday, March 1, against Thoma More at 6:00 p.m.
