CORBIN, Ky. -- The Siena Heights men's wrestling team opened its season at the Pepsi Patriot Open over the weekend.
Top performers for the Saints included Randy Frailey, Brandon Rau and Aidan Mozden. Each won multiple matches on the mat.
Frailey won his first three matches to reach the semifinals of the open 133-pound weight class, however, he had to medical forfeit out of his next three matches.
Frailey earned a major decision against Keyshaun Taylor (Brewton-Parker), 14-2, and then a technical fall of Zimani Malomboza (Indiana Tech), 18-1. Frailey's finally victory on the mat was an 11-2 major decision against Josiah Hernandez (Keiser).
Brandon Rau went 2-2 in the open 184 class. He took a tech fall against Ernst Lavaud (Midway), 17-1, before falling in the quarterfinals. He bounced back with a pinfall over Jordan Fulks (Marian) in 2:42.
Aidan Mozden finished 5-2 in the freshman/sophomore 285 class, going 4-1 on the mat before he medically-forfeitted out of the third-place contest. Mozden's wins came against Juan Luis-Tapia (Central Baptist), pinfall in 3:21; Matthew Rodriguez-Ramirez (Oklahoma Wesleyan), pinfall in :12; Reagan McCullough (Bellarmine), 11-6 decision; and Alex Holmes (Indiana Tech), 17-1 tech fall.
