Softball Claims Two Wins in Walk-Off Fashion

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Morgan Warfield and Tiffany Jones smacked walk-off singles during the Siena Heights softball team's doubleheader sweep of Lourdes (Ohio) in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action at Christensen Memorial Field on Wednesday. The Saints won game one, 7-6, and then took game two, 6-5.

In game one, Warfield batted 2-for-4 with one run and two RBI. Taylor Hayes (double) went 2-for-2 with a run and three RBI while Katie O'Hotzke finished 2-for-3 with two runs.

O'Hotzke also earned the win, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits while recording six strikeouts, seven walks and two hit batsman.

The Saints (11-7, 2-2) scored the tying and winning runs with two outs in the seventh. Megan Jones' RBI single was the precursor for Warfield's game-winning hit. Warfield plated Hayes with the winner by smashing a groundball into center field.

SHU once faced a two-run deficit before building a two-run lead of its own.

Hayes had an RBI single in the Saints' first inning, trimming the hosts' deficit to 2-1.

With SHU trailing 3-1 in the fourth, Hayes ripped an RBI double, Megan Jones smacked an RBI single and Micayla Buike hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly. Hayes added another sac fly in the fifth as the Saints took a 5-3 advantage.

Lourdes then scored two in the sixth before taking its final lead in the seventh at 6-5.

Hayley Roberts (double) batted 2-for-3 with two RBI for the Wolves. Alyssa Schaub scored two runs while losing pitcher Kasey Graham allowed seven runs on 11 hits while compiling two strikeouts and two walks.

In game two, Lourdes (6-10, 0-4) once again took the lead during the final inning before SHU pushed across sying and winning scores.

Warfield tied the contest with a one-out RBI double before Tiffany Jones singled in Morgan Yoder with the game-winning run.

SHU once held a 4-0 lead, getting RBI singles from O'Hotzke and Megan Jones during a three-run third inning. The Saints also scored runs in the third and fifth innings via Gray Wolf errors.

Lourdes then battled back with a single run in the sixth and then four runs with two outs to go ahead, 5-4, during the seventh.

Warfield finished 2-for-4 with a triple, double and one RBI. Megan Jones also went 2-for-4 and scored a run. Hayes was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Hayes was credited as the winning pitcher after working 1 1/3 frames in relief. She allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits while recording one strikeout and one walk.

Warfield started in the pitcher's circle. Lourdes scored an unearned run against Warfield, who allowed four hits and finished with two strikeouts and one walk.

Hilary West (double) batted 2-for-3 for Lourdes. Sam Merillat was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with a WHAC doubleheader at Indiana Tech.
