The Siena Heights Softball Team had a six game winning streak stopped Wednesday with two losses to Spring Arbor by scores of 11-8 and 7-4.
In game one, the Saints made six miscues in the field, allowing five unearned runs. After falling behind 2-0 in the second, the Saints fought back and tied the game at 3 after the 5th. SHU fell behind 4-3 after the top of the 6th. In the bottom of the 6th the Saints scored five runs to take a four run lead into the final frame. However, Spring Arbor responded with seven runs in the top of the 7th to take game one.
Katie O'Hotzke started the game and threw 6+ innings before Morgan Warfield relieved her in the 7th. Taylor Hayes continued her hot streak going 3-4 with a double and RBI. Kenya Keller hit her first collegiate homerun going 2-5 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. O'Hotzke was 2-3 with an RBI, Warfield, Megan Higdon, and Bitty Treece (2) also had RBI for the Saints.
In game two, errors proved costly once again for SHU. In a game that was shortened to five innings due to darkness, the Saints fell behind in the second with two unearned runs, then saw Spring Arbor score a run in the 4th and three more unearned runs in the 5th. SHU tallied a single run in the 2nd and in the 4th before plating two in the 5th to bring the final to 7-4.
Hayes took the loss on the mound, throwing all five innings allowing only one earned run. At the plate O'Hotzke was 2-2 with a RBI, Warfield was 2-3 with a triple and RBI, Tiffany Jones added a RBI along with Liz Polmanteer who collected the other Saint RBI.
The Saints fall to 15-9 overall and will return to action with another non-conference game with crosstown foe Adrian College. The doubleheader will be played at Adrian beginning at 4 pm on Thursday.
