GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team suffered a pair of 10-2 losses to 21st-ranked Davenport in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Sunday.
In game one, SHU (15-15, 6-6) scored its only two runs on a sixth-inning home run by Taylor Hayes. Heading into that inning, the Saints trailed 6-0 after giving up four runs in the first and two in the fourth.
Following Hayes' bomb, DU (26-6, 11-1) scored four runs in its half of the sixth to end the contest.
Davenport's offense had 12 hits while SHU managed only two.
Amber Getty batted 3-for-4 with a triple, stolen base and three runs while K.C. Dunne went 3-for-3 with a double, stolen base, three RBI and two runs for the host Panthers. Karli Myers homered.
Katie O'Hotzke was the losing pitcher for Siena Heights. She allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 12 hits while compiling two strikeouts and two walks.
Emily Maves was the winning pitcher, finishing with nine strikeouts and three walks.
The Saints jumped ahead early with two first-inning runs in game two. Megan Jones drew a bases-loaded walk and Morgan Warfield contributed an RBI single, but a fielder's choice groundout and double-play lineout quickly ended SHU's bases-load, no-out threat.
Davenport then scored 10 unanswered runs, including five in the second, one in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth. Getty put the Panthers ahead for good with a second-inning grand slam.
Hayes went 2-for-2 at the plate, but suffered the loss. She pitched 1 2/3 innings, giving up five runs, although only one was earned, on three hits.
Alyssa Eastman was the winning pitcher for Davenport. She allowed two runs on seven hits while totaling two strikeouts and four walks.
Eastman added a homer at the plate, Debra Burton doubled twice, and Getty went 2-for-3 with the homer, two runs and four RBI.
Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts Aquinas for a 3:30 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.
