ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Kenya Keller tied the Siena Heights softball team's single-season record for triples as the Saints claimed a pair of victories -- 19-3 and 4-1 -- over Concordia on Thursday. The wins also secured SHU's first winning record in WHAC play in over a decade.
Keller batted 4-for-5 with three triples, five runs and two RBI during the 19-3 decision. She tied the school's single-season mark of seven triples, which was set by Nancy Hamlin in 1992.
Katie O'Hotzke (double) added a 2-for-5 game with a run and three RBI. She also earned the pitching win, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while totaling five strikeouts and three walks.
Megan Jones (double) also went 2-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Morgan Warfield (double) added a 2-for-4 effort with two runs, two RBI and a stolen base.
Also for the Saints (19-17, 10-8), Liz Polmanteer went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI, Courtney Craig finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Mariah Boss recorded four runs and one stolen base.
Siena Heights got on the board on an RBI single by Warfield in the second. After Concordia evened the score at 1-1 in its second, SHU erupted for five runs in the third.
SHU scored three runs on CUAA errors and tacked on two with RBI singles by Keller and Craig.
Taylor Hayes added a sacrifice fly in the Siena fourth; two other Saint runs scored via errors, pushing SHU's lead to 9-1.
The Saints tacked on one run in the fifth on an O'Hotzke single.
Then, in SHU's nine-run sixth, Keller had two triples, including one which plated a run. O'Hotzke and Jones had two-run doubles, Warfield had a run-scoring double, and Polmanteer smacked an RBI single. Jenn Sylvester, a junior, collected her first collegiate RBI as well.
Concordia's Kortney Loar, who batted 2-for-2, was the losing pitcher.
In the 4-1 contest, Taylor Hayes went 2-for-4 with a triple, double and run on offense while earning the win in the pitcher's circle. Hayes allowed one run on five hits while finishing with five strikeouts and three walks.
Warfield (triple) went 2-for-2 while Boss was 2-for-3 with one run scored.
The Saints went ahead in the second on a Craig single. Jones had a sacrifice fly during SHU's two-run third.
Valerie Carrillo tripled and Loar doubled for Concordia. Corrina Rotondo was the losing pitcher.
Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with its home finale -- a non-conference doubleheader against ninth-ranked Saint Xavier (Ill.).
