Softball Eliminated From Conference Tourney by Concordia

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a 13-5 decision in six innings to Concordia in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament action on Thursday at Pacesetter Park. With the loss, SHU was eliminated.

The sixth-seeded Cardinals (28-22) snagged an early 5-0 lead through two innings before four-seed Siena rattled off four consecutive runs of its own. Unfortunately for the Saints, CUAA scored four times in the fifth and four times in the sixth to enact the eight-run rule.

Courtney Craig and Tiffany Jones had 2-for-3 games for the Saints (20-21). Katie O'Hotzke added a double and two RBI.

O'Hotzke also pitched for Siena Heights. In 5 1/3 innings, she recorded five strikeouts, two walks and one hit batsman.

Concordia scored on a SHU error in the first inning and then tacked on four more runs in the second -- highlighted by Kortney Loar's two-run triple -- to take its initial five-run lead.

The, the Saints chipped away, getting four runs across a three-inning period. O'Hotzke had an RBI groundout in the SHU third and then Morgan Warfield smacked an RBI single during the Saints' two-run fourth.

Siena Heights added its fourth run in the fifth when Mariah Boss scored on a wild pitch, cutting the deficit to one.

After that, CUAA plated its final eight runs over 1 1/3 innings. The Saints scored their last run on an O'Hotzke double in the sixth.

Loar finished 2-for-4 for Concordia, including a double, triple and two RBI while Jessica Barjaktarovich went 3-for-3 with a double, stolen base, three runs and two RBI.

Lindsey Pyle tripled and doubled and Angela Martin went 2-for-3 for the winners.

Corrina Rotondo started in the pitcher's circle and worked the first four innings. Loar pitched two innings to earn the save.
