Softball Loses Pair to #7 Saint Xavier

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to seventh-ranked Saint Xavier (Ill.) on Saturday, 1-0 and 7-0.

Kelsie Abbott was the tough-luck losing pitcher in game one. She threw six innings, allowing one run on four hits. She had one strikeout and four walks.

The host Cougars (19-2-1) plated their only run on a Shannon Lauret double in the sixth inning.

Abbott had SHU's only hit against Saint Xavier ace Nicole Nonnemacher, who finished with 16 strikeouts and two walks.

During the 7-0 nightcamp, Hannah Bleikamp and Morgan Warfield had 2-for-3 games. Bleikamp also recorded a stolen base.

Warfield was the losing pitcher. She surrendered seven runs on seven hits, although only one run was earned. Warfield tallied two strikeouts and two walks.

The Cougars scored twice in the first, three times in the third and twice in the sixth. Katie Sears went 2-for-3 with two runs, Samantha Kinsella collected two RBI and Holly Hilden was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Callie Brown was the winning pitcher for Saint Xavier, allowing six hits in six innings of work. She had four strikeouts and one walk.

Siena Heights (11-8) will remain in the Chicago area and take on Robert Morris (Ill.) in doubleheader action on Sunday.
