ROCKFORD, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team upset Madonna, 9-1, but then fell Michigan-Dearborn, 4-1, during Wednesday's action at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament.

The eight-seed Saints (23-20) scored seven runs in the sixth inning to finish off top-seed Madonna in six innings.

Mariah Boss went 2-for-3 with a triple, double and two runs. Taylor Heisler (double) added a 2-for-3 game with three RBI, Taylor Hayes (double) went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Megan Jones (double) added a 2-for-4 game with two runs and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Kelsie Abbott gave up one run on seven hits while recording four strikeouts.

Heisler had an RBI single in the second and Hayes contributed an RBI single in the third as the Saints took a 2-0 lead. Madonna trimmed its deficit to 2-1 in the third.

In the sixth, Heisler had a two-run double and Abbott smacked a two-run single. Also, Treece had an RBI single, Hayes had an RBI double and Jones drove in a run via groundout.

Erin Combs was the losing pitcher for Madonna. Of the nine runs scored against her, only two were earned. She gave up 11 hits and finished with three strikeouts and one walk in 5 1/3 innings.

For the Crusader offense, Nicky Salloum batted 2-for-3 with an RBI. Karleigh Creighton was 2-for-2.

In the nightcap, the Saints managed only two hits against four-seed Dearborn. Warfield had both hits, going 2-for-3 with a run.

Dearborn took a 1-0 lead in the second and tacked on two more runs in the fourth on a home run by Ellie Kauten.

The Saints got their run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Heisler, but that was all SHU could muster.

The Wolverines scored their final run in the sixth.

Abbott was the losing pitcher, giving up only one earned run among the four Wolverine scores. She allowed five hits and recorded three strikeouts.

Abby Jewell was the winning pitcher for UMD, compiling five strikeouts and two walks.

The Saints will return to action on Thursday with a losers' bracket meeting against seventh-seeded Lourdes (Ohio) at 2 p.m.
