ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team swept a WHAC doubleheader against Cleary, winning 2-1 and 9-2 on Saturday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field.
Ellie Thelen tied a school record with four hits in game two, matching a mark that as been reached 48 times previously.
The Saints (14-11, 4-5) will return to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. WHAC twinbill versus Rochester Christian.
Siena Heights 2, Cleary 1
Winning pitcher Shyann Truax helped her own cause with two RBI on offense. She finished with a 2-for-3 game, including a double.
Inside the circle, Truax allowed one run on four hits while totaling two strikeouts and two walks.
Truax had an RBI single during the first inning and an RBI double in the third.
Cleary scored its only run in the sixth.
Siena Heights 9, Cleary 2
Thelen batted 4-for-4 and scored three runs. Liberti Fair added a 3-for-4 effort with three RBI and two runs. Truax doubled.
Cassi Kieper was the winning pitcher, giving up four hits in seven innings. Neither Cleary run was earned. Kieper had two Ks and one walk.
The teams were tied 2-2 before SHU rattled off seven unanswered runs.
Fair had an RBI single and Carly Grassley drew a bases-loaded walk during the Saints' 2-run first.
Cleary had its only two runs in the second.
Siena Heights took the lead for good with a 2-run fifth. Truax ripped an RBI double and Brooklyn Ross drew a bases-loaded walk.
The Saints plated five runs in the sixth, getting 2-run singles from Fair and Emma Marshall. Lauren Dioszegi added a sacrifice fly.
