Peyton Banks Named CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Siena Heights junior forward Peyton Banks was named CoSIDA Academic All-District first-team NAIA – District I. Banks is the first member of the SHU women's basketball team to receive this honor.

"Peyton's honors this year are a showcase of her talent," said head coach Sue Syljebeck. "The numerous awards she has earned are a tribute to her direct involvement with the success of our program."

Banks adds this award to an already fantastic junior campaign where she has compiled several awards. The most recent was NAIA Second Team All-America. She is just the fifth SHU women's basketball player to earn WBCA All-America Honorable Mention. In February, she became the 12th Siena Heights women's basketball player to hit the 1,000 career-point milestone. She followed that performance with her second-consecutive Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Player of the Year award as well as a First-Team All-WHAC selection.

The Wadsworth, Ohio native also led all National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) women's basketball players in free throw percentage (.931) while also falling 19th in 3-point field-goal percentage (.442).

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Women's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First, second, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in late May.

The CoSIDA All-Academic All-District NAIA District 1 team consists of the five best college basketball players in the NAIA from 22 states in the Eastern side of the United States.

Banks is the only player from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference named to the all-district team. She joins three players from Point Park University and one from Mount Vernon Nazarene on the list.
