Women's Basketball Set for Two Conference Home Matchups This Week

UPCOMING FOR SHU: The Saints have will host two conference foes this week. First up, they will see Madonna on Wednesday at 6 pm. On Saturday, they will have Rochester in town for a 5 pm tip off.

HEAD COACH: Sue Syljebeck is in her 19th season as the head coach of the Saints women's basketball program. She is the program's winningest coach with a career record of 342-223. Syljebeck currently ranks 23rd on the NAIA Women's basketball active coach wins list. She will be assisted this year by Deb Ray, Sara Chrenko, Niesha Lowe, Mo Rammuny, Dan Brooks and Tee Watters.

MADONNA: Siena Heights has held the advantage in this rivalry for the last several years. The Saints are on an 11 game winning streak against the Crusaders, dating back to the 2015-2016 season. Last season, the Saints defeated Madonna at home by a score of 52-31 and won in Livonia by a score of 64-60.

ROCHESTER: The Saints and the Warriors have had some fierce battles over the last couple of seasons. In the 2021-22 season, the teams split the regular season games with both teams winning on their home courts, SHU won 79-69 in Adrian, while Rochester won 83-82 in Rochester. Rochester ended the Saints season last year in the WHAC Tournament with a 68-66 win. The pair split the 2020-21 season games as well. Prior to the 2020-21 season, the Saints were on a stretch of 11 wins in 12 games versus the Warriors dating back to 2010.

LAST TIME OUT: The SHU Women's Basketball Team capped a busy week off with a one point loss to Keiser to finish up the SHU Thanksgiving Tournament. Sha'Kyia Parker and Peyton Banks led the way with 25 and 18 points respectively. Olivia DeLong had a team high seven rebounds Parker and E'Anna Won each dished out three assists. Won also added four steals with Banks and DeLong adding two blocks each.

RECORD WATCH: Peyton Banks is 3 points shy of tying for the program record of 1,812 career points. She also sits 191 points from hitting 2,000 career points, a point that no SHU women's basketball player and only one SHU men's basketball player has reached. Her 873 career rebounds are 226 away from the lead in that category, she moved into 3rd place on the Saints' career record board and is 66 rebounds behind the second place total of 939. Sha'kyia Parker is 119 points from 1,000 career points at SHU. She would be the 13th women's basketball player at Siena Heights to reach that milestone.
