LIVONIA, Mich. — The Siena Heights women's basketball team used a dominant second quarter and a steady performance at the free‑throw line to pull away from Madonna for a 69‑59 WHAC victory Saturday afternoon.
Kanyla Tyler led the Saints with 18 points, converting 10 of 13 free throws, while Lauren DeWolf added 17 points, including three 3‑pointers.
Jam Thigpen recorded a double‑double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Ty'Veonna Davis finished with 11 points. Off the bench, E'Moni Finch chipped in 10 points.
The Saints and Crusaders were tied 21‑21 after the opening quarter, but Siena Heights took control by limiting Madonna to just six points in the second period. The defensive effort helped the Saints carry a 35‑27 lead into halftime.
Madonna responded after the break, outscoring Siena Heights 21‑14 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 49‑48 heading into the fourth. Siena Heights answered in the final 10 minutes, holding Madonna to 11 points while closing the game at the foul line to secure the win.
Siena Heights took care of the basketball, committing just seven turnovers while forcing 15, leading to a 16‑6 advantage in points off turnovers.
