ADRIAN, Mich. – Eighteen members of the Siena Heights women's soccer team were named as the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced the 2022 WHAC women's soccer awards this afternoon.
Junior MacKenzie Stenzel led the way for the Saints as she finished a terrific season with a first-team All-WHAC award. Junior Lily Tiplady and sophomore Olivia Emert earned second-team All-WHAC distinctions. Isabel Remar was named to the Champions of Character team. All three student-athletes were named to the WHAC All-Academic squad.
Stenzel started all 20 games for the Saints this season. She tallied two goals and one assist as a leader on the SHU backline.
"MacKenzie has been dominant for us all season, consistently making the most plays in any given game or practice, "said SHU head coach Scott Oliver. "She is definitely deserving of being one of the top 14 players in our conference. She has always been a mainstay on our back line and will continue to be that for the rest of her years here."
Tiplady finished the year with the second-most points on the team with 16 after scoring six times and dishing four assists. Both her goal and assist totals ranked second on the team.
"I am happy that Lily has finally produced results to get her some honors," Oliver stated. "She has always been really dangerous almost every day she has been in our uniform. This year this danger has led to goals and assists in our conference play, and her future is still very bright."
Emert tallied seven points on the season with three goals and one assist. One of her goals was the game-winner in the WHAC quarterfinal win over UNOH.
"Olivia has put in her work and dues to receive this honor," said Oliver. "Her drive is what has always set her apart from others. This year, that drive has given her the confidence to make so many plays in the midfield and on our set pieces. I truly think we have still just scratched the surface of Olivia's potential and look for another stellar season in her fifth year."
Julia Anderson, Allie Balasico, Maria Brixner, Katie Carver, Caitlyn Harwood, Berenice Huette Moncelet, Ashley Kraiza, Morgan Llewellyn, Hannah Moening, Mackenzie Pettey, Danielle Powell, Erin Tyson, Marissa Young, Sophie Zelek joined Stenzel, Tiplady, Emert, and Remar on the WHAC All-Academic team to allow the Saints to boast the most all-academic players in the league.
"I am so proud of all our athletes. We talk about grades often when they are younger student-athletes. In the end, the girls do the work and have their own high standards. They deserve all the credit for taking the time and making sure the school work is done to the best of their abilities. I am also glad they have made that part of the culture of our program," bragged Oliver.
