INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Siena Heights women's pole vaulter Emma Stewart tied the indoor-school record, becoming only the second Saint woman to hit 13 feet, 4 1/4 inches (4.07 meters) inside while competing Saturday at the Crossroads of America Invitational.
Stewart placed seventh, improving on her previous NAIA auto-mark. She remained No. 1 in the NAIA after competing in a star-studded field in Indy.
Stewart matched the previous SHU record set by Tyler Fugate, who reached the 13-4 1/4 mark in Dec. 2021.
Stewart finished behind all former or current NCAA Division I vaulters, including Jessica Mercier and Gabriela Leon. Mercier, an All-American who competed for Michigan and Indiana, won the vault with a 15-0 (4.57m). Leon, the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Pole Vault champion from Louisvile and 2024 Olympic-trials competitor, was runner up with a 14-4 (4.37m).
The others ahead of Stewart were three current D-I athletes from Louisville and one from Kentucky.
