Women's Volleyball Sweeps WHAC Player of the Week Awards

The Siena Heights women's volleyball team swept this week's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) player of the week awards when the league announced the winners on Monday afternoon. Kadie Carsten claimed attacker of the week, Aubrey Bates was setter of the week, and Payton Osborne was tabbed defender of the week.

Carsten was instrumental in the Saints going 4-1 for the week. Her contributions were ever-present during the four-game SHU Tournament held on Friday and Saturday, September 3-4. During those matches, Carsten totaled 43 kills and had a hitting percentage of .161. Her performance earned her a spot on the all-tournament team for the weekend.

Bates was the pacesetter for Siena Heights through the week. She started with 20 assists in the 3-0 sweep at Adrian College on Wednesday. She continued with a 96-assist performance on the opening day of the SHU Tournament that included a career-high 59 assists in the five-set win over Bluefield. She finished the weekend with another 85 assists to bring her weekend total to 181 over the four matches played. She joined Carsten on the all-tournament team for her efforts.

Osborne was rock solid for SHU on defense throughout the week. She debuted with 10 digs against Adrian College before registering double-digit digs in three of the four tournament matches including a career-high 31 digs in the 3-1 win over Spring Arbor. Her weekend total was a team-high 79 digs.

This is the first player of the week award for all three players and the first award for the team so far this season.

Carsten, Bates, and Osborne return to action when the SHU women's volleyball team starts the WHAC season with a road match against UNOH this Wednesday (Sept. 8) at 7:00 PM.
