Men's Hoops Falls to Madonna Despite Strong First Half

 

ADRIAN, Mich. — The Siena Heights men's basketball team took the lead into the break before falling 81–69 to Madonna in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup at the SHU Fieldhouse on Wednesday.

The Saints (4–7, 1–6) led 36–34 at halftime after shooting 45.2% from the field and hitting six first-half threes. Jonas Tester sparked the early surge with 16 first-half points, including two triples, while George Kalatzis added eight points and two threes to help Siena Heights build a nine-point advantage midway through the opening period.

Madonna (8–4, 5–2) flipped the script in the second half, outscoring the Saints 47–33.

Siena Heights stayed competitive behind Nick Sobush's hot second half. The senior guard scored all 14 of his points after the break, hitting four threes to keep the Saints within striking distance. Jack Olis added 13 points and nine rebounds, and Kalatzis finished with 13 points and six boards. Tester ended with 20 points.

The Saints hit 12 threes at a 44.4% clip but struggled inside, managing just 12 points in the paint. Madonna's depth proved decisive, with Makyle Doss scoring seven of his 12 points in the second half and the Crusaders' bench contributing 20 points overall.
